"Environmental Ocean Team LTD" is a company whose core mission focuses on oceanographic research and science outreach. The aim is to inform the public about crucial issues such as climate change, conservation of the natural environment and sustainable development. EOT sports an international team of scientists, researchers, top sailors and media experts, and uses specially equipped yachts for the collection and analysis of environmental data.

"I think the Environmental Ocean Team is a really great initiative. The oceans are going to play such an important part in the future of this planet and there is so much more to learn about them. The scientists involved have a wealth of research expertise and Giovanni Soldini is an accomplished sailor - all the right ingredients to really make this project a success."

Ocean Team goes to the North Atlantic

Physicist Emilio Tesi (one of the directors and overall coordinator of EOT) and photographer Arturo delle Donne are taking part to the Extended Ellett Line oceanographic campaign organized by NOCS on board NERC's RRS Discovery from 19 to 29 April. Their cruise diary, with comments, pictures and videos showing the scientific aspects of the campaign as well as life on board, will be available on this web site to allow you to virtually participate in this fascinating research adventure. Emilio and Arturo will wear technical garments kindly provided by LEVIATHAN®, a company specialized in technical textile products with enviable performance levels, which has sponsored several oceanographic campaigns in the last few decades.

Further information on this mission is available here

EOT HAS A NEW SPONSOR

LMF & Partners SIM S.p.A. (asset managers) collaborates with EOT sponsoring its projects.
LMF & Partners´ awareness of environmental problems has led it to create a new investment line: DEEP BLUE. The criteria for DEEP BLUE investments are characterized by the attention to environmental issues and sustainable development. EOT members share their environmental expertise with LMF & Partners, with EOT director Marco Bianucci sitting on the committee that strategically chooses the investments within DEEP BLUE.

Download the video about climate change, renewable energy and the importance of the oceans for the climate system (in Italian - a version with English subtitles will be available soon). The video is the result of a collaboration between Environmental Ocean Team, INForMando and NOCS, and features the famous sailor Giovanni Soldini and NOCS scientist Paolo Cipollini. The original idea came from Marco Bianucci, Paolo Cipollini and Emilio Tesi. The filmakers are Luca Busi (Zeroframe) Barry Marsh (NOCS), Sara Petri and Alessandra Trentin.

The documentary about climate change and the alternative energy produced by the Environmental Ocean Team was recently featured in the local Southampton news.

Congratulations to Prof. Andrey Kostianoy (one of EOT Honorary members) who edited the book "The Black Sea Environment" (2008) (and wrote several chapters). It was published by Springer. His previous book, "The Caspian Sea Environment" (2005),was published by Springer too.

Some EOT members have recently visited Giovanni Soldini in Lorient, Brittany, where Giovanni is supervising the construction of his new single-hull boat, almost completed, which he will race in the most important sailing competitions. During the visit some coverage for a short movie was shot by filmmakers Luca Busi & Sara Petri. The movie, to be shown at the BergamoScienza festival, is now being edited and will be available on-line soon.

The picture was taken in Riomaggiore during the meeting with Franco Bonanini, president of the Cinque Terre National Park. One project was proposed by EOT at the meeting, and was favourably accepted by the Park.
The project, "Explaining Sailing & Science in the Park", which will be carried out in cooperation with the INForMando Group of INFM-CNR, consists of a series of guided lectures on a sailing boat in the Cinque Terre Marine Protected Area. The topics of the lectures will range from "Biodiversity of the Seafloor" to "Climatic Changes", to "Clean and Renewable Energy" and to "Environmental Safeguard as a Key to Sustainable Tourism". During these lectures, designed as truly "hands- on" workshops at sea, a range of media, such as photographs and video including underwater) will be produced. These are to be used as a support material for primary and secondary schools both at local and national level.
